Terms of use
Gaffa is an automated WhatsApp assistant that keeps track of who is playing for a football team each week. It is provided by Gaffa Labs Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 17505480), registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ. These are the terms it is offered on, in plain words.
What Gaffa does
- A team's manager puts players on a list, or approves them joining. Gaffa messages them on WhatsApp about the team's games, records who can play, and helps the manager settle a squad.
- Gaffa is a helper. The manager is in charge of who plays, when and where, and Gaffa works to what the manager has set; the team's own arrangements stand.
- Its messages are written by software, including AI - now and then by Gaffa's admin - and it can get things wrong. If something matters, check it with your manager.
- It is offered as it is, while it is being built and tried with a small number of teams. It may change, pause or stop, and a message may occasionally be late or missed. Do not rely on it for anything where that would matter.
Match fees
- A team's manager may choose to collect match fees through Gaffa. The fee is the manager's to set; Gaffa asks each player for one amount, which includes the card processing fee unless the manager covers it, and sends a link to pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
- Payments are taken by Stripe directly into the manager's own Stripe account, under Stripe's terms. Gaffa Labs never holds the money, takes no cut, and is not a party to the payment: any question about a payment, a refund or a dispute is between you, your manager and Stripe. Gaffa records what was paid and passes on refunds the manager asks for.
- Managers who collect are responsible for their Stripe account, for what they ask players to pay, and for refunding anyone they owe.
Using it
- Gaffa is for adult amateur football teams.
- You are on a team's list because its manager added you or approved you joining. Say "take me off the list" to Gaffa and you come off it; say "stop messaging me" and it stops asking you about games.
- Give Gaffa honest answers about games and be decent to the people it is helping organise. A manager can take anyone off their list.
- Managers: only add people who expect to hear from you about the team, and keep what you learn about your players to the running of the team.
- Do not use Gaffa to send anything unlawful, abusive or unwanted.
A connected calendar
If you connect your Google Calendar, Gaffa keeps your games in a calendar of its own inside your account, as the privacy page describes. It never reads your calendar. Say "disconnect my calendar" to end it at any time, and Gaffa's calendar is removed.
Your information
What Gaffa keeps, who can see it and why is set out on the privacy page. Nothing is sold.
Changes and questions
These terms may change as Gaffa grows; the current version is always at this address. Questions about your team go to your manager - ask Gaffa on WhatsApp and it will pass them on. Questions about Gaffa itself: email Gaffa. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
